SMOG CHECK

The only thing I had on my list of things to do today was the smog check. The small item was to get my EDD form in the mail. The next small item was to return the car rental.

After that, I headed to Pomona to get the smog check. It was $28 out the door and I passed. I was a little worried I wouldn't pass since last year, I remember the guy saying I barely passed. Maybe I barely passed again this year, but maybe all the fuel additives and hard driving cleaned-out my engine. Maybe it was also the recent oil change. Who knows? I need to show Rich the results so he can tell me.

When I got back, Jansen came over and I started cooking another recipe for the Tommy's chili clone. This one was just as thick, but the color was better. I guess the key is to brown the roux as much as possible to give it a deep, caramel color. But the chili was still missing the reddish color of the original, and I suspect that has something to do with the chili powder or paprika.

I had the same thing with moms for dinner, but she added a little guacamole to it all. Surprisingly, it filled me up and I wasn't really very hungry the rest of the evening.

I just watched the Cal v Texas Holiday Bowl and they lost and didn't even cover the spread. However, I think they'll be better next year, but I don't see them as a powerhouse or anything.
