HAROLD AND MAUDE

This delightful movie was made the year I was born. The late 60s and early 70s are particularly interesting decades for me because I feel as if the spirit of these decades were somehow woven into my psyche. Harold and Maude has gained enormous cult status and some even consider it the most popular cult movie ever. Here's a great scene that I just love. Maude, played by Ruth Gordon, tries to pep-up Harold after he explains to her why he would rather be dead.

I understand a lot of people enjoy being dead, but they're not really dead. They're just backing away from life. Reach out. Take a chance. Get hurt, even. But play as well as you can. Go, team, go! Gimme an "L," gimme an "I," gimme a "V," gimme an "E." L-I-V-E. Live! Otherwise you got nothing to talk about in the locker room.

LAKERS V CELTICS

The Lakers play the Celtics today in what may be a preview of the NBA Finals. One of my nephew's friends wrote this rant to him after my nephew told him he was slippin' as a Laker fan.

Subject: Re: Kobe

slippin?

i'm a lakers fan, not a kobe bryant fan. i love kobe, but to me the

world does not begin or end with him. i was a lakers fan when we had

ceddy ceballos and nick van exel and eddie jones and kobe was on the

bench. i still love shaq cause i know without him we never would have

won three titles. i will love kobe when he retires cause he continues

the tradition started by george mikan, embodied in jerry west, and

proven with magic. i went to more laker games at the forum than at the

staples center. one of my most prized possessions in life is a ticket

stub from when MJ dropped 38 against the lakers at the forum and we

still won the game back in 1988. i came geared up head to toe in

nike/jordan gear but i never cheered against my team. ive been to five

championship parades, two that my mom pulled me out of class for and

two i left work early for, and one where i told my old boss straight

up i was going to the lakers parade and im taking the morning off. do

u know who bob mcadoo is? do u remember when dunleavy was our coach?

did u know that kurt rambis is married to jerry buss' daughter and

that phil jackson wont marry jerry buss' other daughter? did u know

that rudy garciduenas, the equipment coach started as a ball boy in

his teens and now has one of the coolest jobs in the world? did u know

before the crowd chanted "luuuuuke" and "luuuue" it was "coooooooo"

for mr. high socks? can u name how many lakers in history have worn

the number 4? #21? #1? can u say orlando woolridge? please dont even

try to say im slippin on the lakers just cause i dont know how much

kobe tipped some waitress while makin it rain with diddy. sorry i dont

know that obama said kobe was the best player in the world. maybe i

should have copied u on my email to my coworkers and my boss this

morning that said i had to leave work at 430 on the dot because my

team is playing the celtics at 5PM and i gotta watch it as close to

home base (staples center) as possible. maybe i should take a picture

of the lakers schedule on my desk with 39 black W's written with a

sharpie and 9 L's written with a red pen.

or maybe u shud never say im slippin when it comes to the lakers again...
